Grateful Dead Song Insights

Someone once asked Robert Hunter what it was like writing songs with Jerry Garcia. Robert said "It's like throwing pennies off the Brooklyn Bridge as opposed to throwing pennies in a pond."

Have you ever listened to a Grateful Dead song and wondered what they were trying to say? This quiz is not about such trivia as times and places or whom wrote or sung what song. But it covers the original idea/inspiration/influence behind each song on six iconic Grateful Dead albums. Includes Workingman's Dead, American Beauty, Wake Of The Flood, From The Mars Hotel, Blues For Allah and Terrapin Station.

This is not so much a competition, but more of a fun way to learn about what the Grateful Dead were thinking of when they wrote songs. You can guess if you are not sure of the answer from the multiple choice questions but do go back and use the Answer button for all the questions so you can see what the story was regarding each song.

The game includes a link to the song in YouTube so you can listen to it if you are not sure you remember how it goes (use the "go back" button on your phone to return to the quiz, it is usually on the bottom right of your phone) !

It should be pointed out that there is no all encompassing single influence for a song. There are usually many. The ideas and stories in the quiz are from several references and are generally thought of as the main impetus or idea behind the song but only the Grateful Dead truly know what their influences were.
